The newspaper calls itself India’s National Daily. The Hindu which began in 1878 as a weekly became a daily in 1889, is headquartered in Chennai.
The Hindu Group has, apart from the general interest newspaper, a business newspaper, a fortnightly magazine, a sports magazine and a Tamil daily. Roof and Floor is a real estate website.
Apart from the news section, the flagship has sections such as opinion, sports, business, education and web-only sub-site The Thread and even have podcast and video sections.
The paper has implemented a paywall as well.
Interestingly, sister sites such as Frontline, Sportstar and even Roof&Floor are sub-domains, although the two news sites have independent editorial teams offline. Business Line and The Hindu Tamil have retained their independent identities online.

The Hindu has a few SEO challenges to overcome.
An interesting facet needs to analysed: Frontline, Sports and Roof&Floor now have the same rank in Alexa. It is quite like that the sites when they were independent did not have the same rank. Therefore, as subdomains they must have automatically got the rank of The Hindu domain. Has this change made any difference either positively or negatively to the sites in terms of traffic would be an good to know.
The site was launched on Online since 1 March 1996 and currently is ranked 1,250 by Alexa in global internet engagement.
